Description

Discover a paradise of fresh mountain air and exquisite surroundings. Cathedral Peak is renowned for its natural beauty and the award-winning hotel is one of South Africa's firm favourites.

From its cosy setting in a quiet valley, visitors look out onto a jagged ridge of mountains known as the Cathedral Spur; the escarpment looms above the hotel to the south and west.

For three generations, the van der Riet family have offered guests hospitality, quality and value for money. The lure of the great outdoors combined with the hotel's many facilities brings families back for holidays, time and again.

Accommodation ranges from spacious, interleading family rooms to private honeymoon rooms. The exclusive Presidential suite offers the ultimate in luxury accommodation boasting electric curtains, a fire place, FULL DSTV, two televisions, spa bath, steam shower and airconditioning.

An exclusive conference favility offers multi-variable seating for up to 200 delegates in a choice of 5 venues. The charming stone-and-thatch chapel with its magnificent view is the perfect setting for a memorable wedding.

When the mountain peaks bask in the last rays of late afternoon sunshine, enjoy sundowners in the comfort of Albert's Cocktail Bar, a friendly meeting place; or relax with the family and watch evening descend on the valley from the hotel patio. The elegant dining-room offers an extensive buffet and superb cuisine, personally supervised by the hotel's top class chef. After dinner, enjoy a game of darts or pool or watch sport on the big screen at the well-known late night Harry's Bar, where friends gather around a roaring log fire.

Hotel guests can enjoy a host of sports activities, including swimming, tennis, squash, horse and pony rides, trout fishing, bowls, floodlit mini-golf, volleyball, gym with steam room and a leisurely game of golf on our scenic nine-hole golf course. Helicopter sight seeing tours and transfers are available by arrangement. The climbing tower is a great alternative for corporate team building challenges as well as family fun. New additions are archery, quad bikes and mountain bike trails (bikes for hire).

The history of the San people lives on in the well-preserved Bushman paintings found in the nearby foothills. Doreen Falls is picturesque in its natural beauty, while the Rainbow Gorge features a spectacular mist of water droplets which creates a colourful rainbow effect - and offers cooling refreshment to passers-by!

Just 250 kilometers from Durban and 400 km from Johannesburg, the famous Cathedral Peak Hotel is easily accessible to its many visitors from all over South African and abroad.

Directions

Driving time from Johannesburg is about 4 hours, or about 2 hours from Durban, mainly on the N3 freeway. From the Johannesburg side: Take the N5 from Harrismith toward the Free State. Not far out of the town turn left onto the R712, and after about 8km, turn left again onto the R74. This route will take you past the Sterkfontein Dam, and down the scenic Oliviershoek Pass. Continue to Bergville. Just beyond Bergville, on the R74 to Winterton, turn right at the Cathedral Peak Hotel sign. After about 16km turn right to Emmaus/Cathedral Peak.It is approximately 31km to Cathedral Peak. From the Durban side: On the N3, about 26km beyond the Estcourt glide-off from the N3 freeway (and beyond the turnoff to the Central Berg Resorts) take the Bergville/Colenso off-ramp. Turn left onto the R74 to Winterton/ Bergville. (Ignore the apparently shorter route from Estcourt through Loskop - a section of this road is currently rough gravel. Marked with a red arrow on the map.) Turn left onto the R600 in Winterton, and turn right after approximately 1km to Cathedral Peak. After 11km there is a T-junction. Turn right and almost immediately left to Emmaus/Cathedral Peak. It is about 31km to Cathedral Peak Hotel
