Description

A quality, affordable holiday for the whole family with old- world hospitality. “Hill” family owned and run for four generations offering comfortable accommodation.  Arrive as a guest a leave as a friend.

Originally built as a Church of England Mission in 1884, Ashtonvale is situated 1,538m above sea level between the foothills of the Southern Drakensberg and the KwaZulu Natal Midlands. Ashtonvale is a working farm with three magnificent waterfalls on the Lurane River the original small family chapel has recently been restored. A quality, affordable holiday for the whole family with old world hospitality. “Hill” family owned and run for four generations offering comfortable full board accommodation in en-suite rondavels and cottages.  A B&B option is also available and one self-catering cottage sleeping eight people.

The peaceful, mountainous surroundings and three delicious home-cooked meals a day will enable you to relish being away from the hustle and bustle of day-to-day living.

Young children can enjoy interacting with farm animals and learn to milk a cow. A pony ride is arranged daily for them. They have a small playground (with their own tractor) and a tuck-shop with sweets and cool drinks.
Older children are safe to explore the farm on their own or with their newly made friends. A cricket match on the front lawn is a common sight on a late summer afternoon.

Our sparkling blue swimming pool with paddling pool has the most spectacular views, an ideal spot to play with the kids or enjoy sundowners in the evening. We are not liquor licensed so please bring your own. Fridges are available on the main verandah. A tea/coffee station is available 24 hours.

As there are no electrical plug points in the bedrooms a special hair-drying room is available for the ladies, it also houses an iron an ironing board for last minute laundry.

Most evenings, after dinner, we gather in the lounge (in winter around a roaring log fire) to play bingo, vegetable derby or similar family games or you might rather meet with friends in the 'Randy Rooster' to share a drink, play snooker or darts or just simply chat and listen to music.
