DescriptionThe Lord Grey Guest House, named after the erstwhile Governor of the Cape Colony in the 1850's, is located in the very picturesque town of Greytown in the Natal midlands. The house was built in the early 1900's and was renovated and converted to it's current style in the late 1980's. Today it is one of the oldest and best established guest houses in the district.Greytown (a frontier town in the old days) is located +-70km from Pietermaritzburg on the way to Dundee (+-120 km) and the north coast (+-100km from Stanger) and is not far from the Battlefields route of Natal. The Bambatha Rebellion took place in the area and it is the birth place of both Louis Botha and that well known name in South African folklore, Sarie Marais. The Lord Grey is wheelchair friendly and has 6 double rooms (three with double beds and three twins) and one single room. All are en-suite and five of the seven rooms have both bath and shower (the other two only have baths). All rooms have fans, heaters and both MNet and SABC TV. We have a large and comfortable lounge and dining area, with a fire-place for cozy, winter evenings. Our standard offering is bed and breakfast but a home cooked dinner is available on request. If you wish to dine out, we have a restaurant right next door. We have tea/coffee making facilities in our dining area and a bar-fridge for cold refreshments. Our parking is safe and secure and we offer laundry facilities. Smoking is not permitted inside the house but is on outside verandahs. We have braai facilities and a microwave available. We are within walking distance of the Museum, tourist information office and town centre which has shops, banks and medical facilities. Greytown Country Club where both golf and squash can be played is within 2km of us and we are within 1km of the tennis and bowls clubs. We are 3 star graded (TGCSA) and are members of NAA, KZN Tourism, The Amble and PMB Tourism. Your hosts Grace and Lee, look forward to welcoming you.
