Birding

Birding in the Midlands and Drakensberg areas

Birding in the Midlands and Drakensberg areas is such a rewarding past time that we want to encourage more visitors to the region to invest in a pair of binoculars and start spotting the beautiful birds. There are over 300 species of birds in the region and if you carefully select the area in which you start birding, you are likely to see about 100 species over a weekend!

Birdlife KZN is in the process of putting a birding route together, so watch this space for more developments!!!!!

For those of you who don't want to "work" to see these feathered creatures, we can highly recommend a visit to the Crane and Wetland Sanctuary in the Midlands or Falcon Ridge in the Central Drakensberg.

The "special" birds you want to find will be Crowned, Blue and Wattled cranes, Jackal Buzzards (Lammergeyer) and Cape Parrots to name a few.  Join us in viewing a magnificent selection of plumage displayed by these birds found in the Midlands and Drakensberg of South Africa.
