Dargle Valley Pottery

Situated on a farm in Dargle.

Dargle Valley Pottery is situated on a farm in the Dargle Valley.

The artwork includes porcelain, stoneware, terracotta as well as indoor and outdor fireplaces by Ian Glenny who founded the Midlands Meander.

Ian Glenny's work can be found in private collections and galleries worldwide and Dargle Valley pottery boasts the best Gallery on the Meander.

Ian has made use of both a traditional Japanese Anagama Kiln (catenary arched, built sloping up a hill, fired with wood),  as well as Ian's original oil-fired reduction kiln - they produce quite different effects on the pots. The wood-firing especially produces very organic, tactile work resulting from the random action of the ashes during the firing - muted, earthy colours and lots of texture.

Laurie Glenny graduated with a Fine Art Diploma from Technikon Natal and her paintings explore the rich medium of oil paint, reflecting a celebration of the diversity of organic forms and elements found in nature. They also grapple with multi-layered spiritual and philosophical issues.

Ian Glenny is a national award winner with over 30 years of being a potterand is thus a renowned South African Potter
