Midlands SchoolsSchools in the MidlandsThere are a great number of Schools in the Midlands, almost every town has a primary school named after it. The rural schools are found on farms away from towns and towards the Drakensberg regions whereas the private and semi private schools are located along or near Route 103. The Rural schools are full and some are combined schools of children in grade 1 and others in their final year grade 12. The Department of education is desperately trying improve the quality of schools, but because of the large number of rural schools in KwaZulu-Natal, not all schools have received help. The community in some of the regions try to support the local schools as far as possible, here is one of the success stories: Dabulamanzi School was born out of 4 farm schools in the Kamberg Valley. A local farmer donated land. Parents and farmers sourced funds to build the school. The Primary School is located on one side of a small stream and the High School is located on the other side, hence the name Dabulamanzi (Zulu for 'split by the water'). The school opened its doors in January 1993. The learners are mainly children of the farm workers. Dabulamanzi School is proudly South African, with entrenched cultures of respect and dignity. Zulu crafts and skills are taught at the school. Dabulamanzi's mission is to provide a balanced, all round quality education, based on strong and responsible principles of human dignity and respect. The Pen Pal Programme (which allows 100 American students and their 57 Congolese and 43 South African counterparts to learn about one another's cultures, as well as economic, political and social condition ) has been included at Dubulamanzi. |
