To me the Midlands Meander is reminiscent of Great Britain's rolling green hills. It is no wonder so many of the hamlet and village names are of British origin. It is a beautiful part of South Africa; it is a place to rest and breath clean air. We invite you to stay a while, make it a holiday destination. Take time out to be quiet, make time for family and enjoy the simple life! Far too many people use it as a stopover between Johannesburg and Durban as the Midlands is conveniently accessed off the N3. There is the option of finding a country retreat and not moving from that perfect spot of serenity, however for the more active there is a whole host of activities: Hiking - aside from the lovely hikes you can take at KZN Wildlife's Kamberg, Umgeni and Highmoor Nature reserves, most venues in the Midlands allow you take walks on the properties. Walk amongst wild flowers, through grasslands or across pastures. Birding - "twitchers" will enjoy the large variety of bird species that make the Midlands their home.
